The Lodran meteorite and its relationship to the ureilites
نویسنده
چکیده
Lodran is a unique meteorite consisting of roughly equal amounts of metal, olivine, and pyroxene with minor amounts of sulphide, chromite, phosphide, chrome-diopside, and a new phase with a composition close to (K,Na)A1SisO12. Zahringer reported planetary-type rare gases in both the metal and silicates, suggesting a primitive nature. The pyroxene composition is Fs13.s with little variation. Olivine composition averages Fa12.6, but varies at least -t-2o % both among grains and zoned within single grains; only the Fe-rich olivine is in equilibrium with the pyroxene. The metal probably cooled rapidly (70o K/Myr) at high temperatures and slower (30 K/Myr) at lower temperatures. Two compositional populations of chromite are found. A model for the formation of Lodran includes three steps: Formation of large olivine, pyroxene, and metal grains, with the trapping of small olivine inclusions in pyroxene and pyroxene in olivine. Equilibration and recrystallization of olivine, pyroxene, and metal, loss of alkalis and Ca; this probably occurred in a parent-body setting. And incorporation of reducing materials and mild reheating sufficient to produce the zoning in the olivine but not enough to re-equilibrate the pyroxene. Phase compositions and rare-gas concentrations in ureilites are similar to those in Lodran. In some respects Lodran appears to be a metal-rich ureilite, but the higher Fe/(Fe§ Mg) ratios in the latter (Fa 21 olivine) suggest origin on separate parent bodies. The Harvard University meteorite is a mesosiderite and not closely related to Lodran.

Diverse Metals and Sulfides in Polymict Ureilites Eet 83309 and Eet 87720
Introduction: Ureilites are a group of carbonbearing ultramafic achondrites. The majority of samples are monomict with major and trace element compositions consistent with a restitic origin after extensive loss of basaltic melts and significant loss of their metallic component during anatexis. Monomict ureilites are thought to represent largely intact samples of the ureilite parent body (UPB) m...
متن کاملEvidence from polymict ureilite meteorites for a disrupted and re-accreted single ureilite parent asteroid gardened by several distinct impactors
Ureilites are ultramafic achondrites that exhibit heterogeneity in mg# and oxygen isotope ratios between different meteorites. Polymict ureilites represent near-surface material of the ureilite parent asteroid(s). Electron microprobe analyses of >500 olivine and pyroxene clasts in several polymict ureilites reveal a statistically identical range of compositions to that shown by unbrecciated ure...

Introduction. The Frontier Mountain (FRO) meteorite collection includes 15 small ureilites with masses of 0.5-35 g. The relatively large number of ureilites (compared to only 2 HED meteorites) suggests that many of these specimens are probably part of a single fall. However, the FRO ureilites show several different lithologies with differences in olivine compositions, olivine/pyroxene ratios, s...

Lut 009 meteorite was found during a trip to Lut Desert of Iran in March,2012, at 30°20.38' N, 59°09.04' E. Chemical compositions of equilibrated olivine (Fa19.3 ± 0.5) and orthopyroxene (Fs16.7 ± 0.6) show that the meteorite sample belongs to H group of ordinary chondrites, while the texture (chondrule petrography and plagioclase size) suggests a petrologic type of 4. The Lut 009 has been very...
متن کاملCarbon, Nitrogen and Noble Gases in Dia- Mond Separates from the Novo-urei Ureilite
The origin of diamond in ureilites is still debating. There are two the most popular explanations: (1) as a result of shock transformation from graphite caused by meteorite impact in the parent bodies [1-4], and (2) in a CVD process in the solar nebula [5-7]. We isolated a sample strongly enriched with diamond from the Novo-Urei ureilite and separated it into two density fractions in a heavy li...
